Resourcing4HR Insights in the HR Sector from an Agency Perspective
We’ve been hearing this question a lot lately: “What’s the market like right now?” So, we thought we’d share our perspective with our HR network.
If we had to describe the current HR recruitment market in one word, it would be “Unpredictable.”
With over 30 years in the industry, we can confidently say this is one of the most challenging times we’ve faced.
📊 What We’re Seeing in HR Recruitment
💼 Demand for HR remains steady as businesses tackle organisational challenges like reshaping, downsizing, mergers, and broader change initiatives.
📉 Talent Acquisition (TA) and Learning & Development (L&D) are particularly slow, with more candidates than roles, reflecting a wider recruitment slowdown.
🔄 Fixed-Term Contracts (FTCs) are dominating the HR space. Many businesses are opting for FTCs to maintain flexibility while managing headcount efficiently.
🔍 Insights from the KPMG/REC UK Report on Jobs
The latest report (published 8th November 2024) highlights key trends across the UK recruitment market:
📉 Permanent placements: Steepest decline since March 2024
📉 Vacancies: Falling at the fastest rate since early 2021
📉 Temporary billings: Sharpest drop in seven months
📈 Staff availability: Rising as redundancies increase
💷 Starting salaries: Weakest growth since early 2021
👉 Official data reveals UK vacancies have dropped for the 27th consecutive period, falling by 34,000 in three months to 841,000—the lowest level since May 2021.
